Clumsy Wife!!!

Shihab Ovi

Only people in this house; my clumsy old wife and I.
The money plant in the pot, has gone brown, died.

Her trinkets; her blouse are in the cupboard,
Ageing, they smell foul.
Time has eroded my spine, my once youthful legs
Tremble under my weight.

And my clumsy old wife, she just lies in the garden,
Silent out of sight. Once a week the carer comes,
her hands are cold, lacks warmth.
The food is horrible, but I force it down, as my
Pension is but a meagre crown.

The doors have come off, the ceiling leaks, the house is fading
And my clumsy old wife, she just lies in the garden,
Silent out of sight. It was I think; only last year I moved in here,
To be near my clumsy old wife. The undertaker; he has been kind,
the rent I pay, is not very high.

I am decaying, my end is near,
I have bought my plot,
The one right by my dear wife’s.
