Where you once stood is filled with emptiness
I find no joy in the places we were
And no hope in the places we weren't
All that I want is a sign
A sign that there still is a we
The dull scraping out of you hurts my ears
And watching years of us being erased makes me close my eyes
Was it you or me that changed positions
Were you but smoke in a gentle breeze
Or are you a tiny flower that goes unnoticed in a large forest
I don't want you to be a fleeting memory
But who am I to clip your wings
So as you fly away
I will watch and pray it is a migratory pattern
That one day my beautiful bird might fly back to my window
